Over seventy-five years ago, Stephen L. Nelson's father opened his law office in St. Paul. Approximately 50 years ago, his father moved his office to Snelling Avenue, near University, in the Midway area of St. Paul. Before he went to law school, attorney Stephen Nelson earned an undergraduate degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting. To become an estate planning attorney, he couldn't have chosen a better field of study.
We know that there are a lot of places where you can get self help forms to write a will. You can even download forms on the Internet and write one on your own. We wouldn't advise it. There is a lot more to estate planning than deciding who gets what. A will is usually only a small part of the process of estate planning.
Even if you go to an attorney, many of them will spend very little time meeting with you before drafting your will. We will sit down with you for sufficient time to learn about you, your family, your assets, and your goals. Once we have that information, we discuss your options so you can make an informed decision, and find the most effective way to achieve your goals.
While we pride ourselves on keeping the process simple and cost-effective, we refuse to cut corners. We know that there are other consequences to estate planning that are not related to the law. If we believe there is a tax issue, we will work with you and your other professional advisors to address the tax issues.
We work closely with your other professional advisors to keep your taxes and probate at a minimum. If you are already in probate, we can guide you through the process and help you simplify the procedure. If you want sound advice from someone who is familiar with the Minnesota probate courts, contact attorney Nelson, an experienced probate attorney today.
